# IELTS Speaking Part 1 Cambridge 20: Museums

## Sample answer

1. Did you enjoy going to museums when you were a child?

Yes, I really did. I remember going on school trips to different museums, and I learned a lot of new things there. I was really into science museums, especially the ones with dinosaurs—I thought they were so cool back then.

- was really into = was very interested in or enjoyed a lot

2. Are there any interesting museums near where you live now?

Yes, I live in Cambridgeshire, and there are several interesting museums nearby. The Fitzwilliam Museum is pretty famous, and there’s also the Sedgwick Museum with all the fossils. They’re definitely worth a visit.

- worth a visit = good or valuable enough to spend time seeing

3. Do you think it is best to go to museums by yourself or with friends?

I prefer going with friends. It just feels more fun when you can chat about the exhibits or laugh at something together. Going alone is fine, but it can feel a bit boring sometimes.

- prefer = to like one thing more than another
- exhibits = objects or displays shown in a museum for people to look at

4. When you visit another city or country, do you think it’s important to go to a museum there?

Yeah, I think so. It’s a really good way to get to know the place better—like its culture, traditions, or even its history. You kind of understand the city on a deeper level when you see those things in a museum.

- get to know = to become familiar with or learn more about
- understand = to grasp the meaning of something
- on a deeper level = in a more detailed or meaningful way
