IELTS Speaking Part 1 Happiness
1. What makes you feel happy?
I find happiness in simple things, like my brother’s silly jokes and spending time with my dogs. I also feel really happy when I accomplish my goals, no matter how small they are. Traveling to new places and making memories with loved ones also brings me a lot of joy.
- accomplish = to successfully complete or achieve something
2. Do you think happiness is important in life? Why?
Yes, I believe happiness is very important because at the end of the day, no matter how much money we make or how successful we become, if we’re not happy, life just feels empty. Life is unpredictable, so focusing on happiness makes it more meaningful and fulfilling.
- unpredictable = not certain, difficult to know what will happen next
- fulfilling = giving satisfaction and happiness
3. What do you usually do when you feel unhappy?
When I feel unhappy, I usually talk to my best friends because they always know how to cheer me up. Going for a walk or spending time in nature also helps clear my mind. If I’m really stressed, I try to get some rest or meditate to calm myself down.
- cheer someone up = make someone feel happier
- calm someone down = help someone feel more relaxed and less stressed
4. Do you think people are happier now than in the past?
No, I don’t think people are happier now. Even though we have more money and better technology, many people are still not satisfied. They always want more and keep chasing bigger goals without enjoying the present moment. In the past, life was simpler, and people valued relationships and community more. Nowadays, social media also makes people compare their lives to others, which can lead to unhappiness.
- chase = to run after or try hard to get something
5. Can money bring happiness?
Not necessarily. In some cases, money can bring happiness because it allows people to buy what they want, travel to their dream destinations, and have a comfortable life. However, if people sacrifice their health or relationships just to earn money, then it won’t bring true happiness. In the end, things like love, friendship, and personal fulfillment matter more than wealth.
- sacrifice = to give up something important for the sake of something else
- true happiness = genuine, deep, and lasting joy or contentment
